Key Competencies and Experience - Expert knowledge of the bioenergy and/or domestic energy and heating sector in the context of air pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions - Understanding of domestic heating and biomass-related legislation, policy drivers and regulation - Knowledge of residential and small-scale solid fuel combustion, residential combustion, technologies and appliances - Knowledge of renewables and emissions from the industrial sector would be an advantage - Understanding or experience of Net Zero technologies applied in the sector. - Experience with emission measurements and estimating emissions from bioenergy and/or domestic combustion - Modelling of air quality pollutants - Network of contacts within air quality, climate change, or the bioenergy sector. - Strong communication and client presentation skills. - High attention to detail with an appreciation of QA/QC processes. - Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification in a science/mathematics related subject. - Strong problem-solving and numeracy skills. - Proven ability to deliver technically sound results under scrutiny. - Track record of task ownership and completion. - Proficiency in common software like Microsoft Office. Desirable - Experience in emission inventory methods (e.g., IPCC, EMEP/EEA guidelines) and their application in various inventories and projections. - Experience in data processing and statistical analysis. - Familiarity with Python or R languages or relational database server technologies like PostgreSQL. Role overview Ricardo plc is looking to find a technically strong Group Head of Financial Reporting, with clear credibility and gravitas, to join its plc accounting team. The role offers the opportunity to be a key member of a fast-paced team in a dynamic, international Group, with exposure to senior plc and business unit management. Key Responsibilities - Manage finance inputs into the Annual Report & Accounts and Interim Report processes, ensure that all finance sections within the documents have clear and consistent messaging and meet external reporting requirements. - Manage the year end and interim financial reporting processes to ensure high quality reporting from the Business Units and the effective and efficient consolidation of Group results. - Understand and summarise technical reporting issues as they evolve and communicate these effectively to Business Units and other internal and external stakeholders, including external auditors; this includes producing technical papers and presenting within Group and to the Business Units FDs as necessary. - Manage transitions to new accounting standards. - Manage external auditors and tax advisors to ensure period end processes are planned, managed and concluded effectively. - Perform analysis on the reported numbers to ensure reported results are understood and can be explained. - Lead the production of UK statutory accounts. - Manage the Group review of the monthly Accounting Control Checklists, and assist with the development of best practice financial controls. - Assist with due diligence on potential acquisitions, disposals, restructuring and on integration and accounting matters in respect of completed acquisitions. - Business modelling and valuation including impairments. - Drive the improvement in the efficiency and automation of key financial processes relating to financial reporting and compliance. - Support the implementation of new ERP and supporting processes.   Key Attributes   - Qualified accountant (ACA) with considerable PQE ideally gained at a Big 4 firm. - Plc reporting experience. - Strong technical skills (IFRS and UK GAAP), including group consolidations.  Good IT skills, with strong Excel knowledge. - Self-starter, energetic, keen to make a difference and be a key member of the senior finance team. - Strong inter-personal skills and ability to manage effective relationships with senior staff in a plc environment, Business Unit finance staff and external advisors. - Willingness to travel to other Ricardo sites, including occasional overseas travel. Our growing focus on water and environmental solutions, alongside a wider array of consultancy services, means we are seeking to appoint an Associate Director with both a strong technical background and the ability to manage larger projects throughout their life-cycle.   Key accountabilities - You will work as part of a wider team of multi-disciplinary water and environmental experts that includes specialists in the fields of water resources, hydro-ecology, ground and surface water hydrology, flood risk, geomorphology, water quality, aquatic and terrestrial ecology, natural capital, environmental impact assessment and planning. - Elements of all of these disciplines can feature in our work which can include a focus on water resource investigations, strategic water resources (SROs), drought planning, surface water runoff and wastewater investigations. - As such, critical to this role is understanding various environmental strands and linkages to support us in helping solve sometimes complex environmental challenges with a well organised and collaborative approach. - Together with technical delivery and leadership skills, you will have an ambition to help drive our business forward by delivering excellent services and winning new work. - A key requirement is for the effective oversight of sizeable specialist projects and technical elements of work within wider multi-disciplinary programmes. - This is to include experience of leading on bidding through to project execution and close-out. - Acting in a technical lead role in an appropriate technical discipline, the post-holder will have the ability to clearly communicate within technical delivery teams and to clients. - The role will also require some commercial understanding and the ability to own client and stakeholder relationships. - Maintaining quality of service provision is essential, whilst balancing client needs and environmental regulatory requirements within the confines of contracts. - People manager experience would be beneficial, as direct management of staff either within projects or a team will be required. - An appetite and experience in developing new business would also be very much welcome.  Key competencies and experience We are looking to appoint an Associate Director who has relevant environmental consultancy experience supporting the UK water sector and possibly beyond. Essential is significant understanding and experience in a relevant water related environmental technical discipline, to include one and ideally more of: hydrology, hydro-ecology and freshwater catchment science related technical disciplines.
