The role

We are looking for a Graduate Sustainability Consultant (suitable for new graduates, Masters or PhD holders, those at the start of their career looking to change to a purpose-driven role or returning from a break) to join our Energy Infrastructure Transition team. This role will provide a stepping stone into your sustainability and consultancy career in an exciting and rapidly evolving sector.

Our team comprises experts in sustainability consultancy, working across areas such as net zero, ESG, circular economy, LCA, waste and resource management, heat decarbonisation, power and clean fuels. We support clients from strategy through to implementation, helping them develop innovative, practical solutions that reduce environmental impacts and support the transition to a more sustainable future.

Key responsibilities

From day one, you will be part of a team supporting senior consultants in delivering sustainability projects to our clients. Over time, you will be expected to develop your understanding of the sustainability landscape, including technical, policy, commercial and regulatory aspects.

You will contribute to the research and analysis that underpins our consultancy work. You will manage your time across several projects, supporting delivery at all stages, from reviewing data and literature to contributing to the development of models, tools or frameworks and preparing written outputs such as reports and presentations. You will be responsible for the quality and timeliness of your own tasks and will work closely with other consultants to ensure your contributions are integrated into broader project outputs.

Examples of the types of projects you may be involved in include:

  • Supporting organisations to develop and implement net zero strategies.
  • Conducting LCAs to help clients understand the environmental impacts of their products.
  • Carrying out research and analysis to support local authorities with waste and resource management planning.
  • Carrying out research and analysis to inform national and local circular economy policy development
  • Supporting clients to develop ESG strategies and reporting frameworks.
  • Contributing to the development of heat decarbonisation plans for buildings and industrial sites.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, geography, environmental engineering, natural sciences, economics or another related discipline.
  • Genuine interest in sustainability and a broad understanding of topics such as net zero, circular economy, waste and resource management, ESG and heat decarbonisation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and basic modelling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to break down complex research questions, think creatively and solve novel problems.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.

Desirable skills and knowledge

  • Previous internship, academic or project experience related to sustainability or consultancy.
  • Some experience using sustainability tools and methodologies (e.g. LCA, carbon footprinting, waste modelling).
