Role Purpose
We are seeking a researcher to join the Global Integrated Assessment Modelling team at E3Modelling (part of Ricardo). You’ll support the development and application of the Prometheus and OPEN-PROM models, contributing to quantitative research on energy systems, decarbonisation, and climate policy.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will work closely with senior researchers and consultants to support research and consultancy projects. Your work will focus on further developing and applying our national and global Integrated Assessment Models. Tasks include:
Collecting, structuring, and analysing large datasets related to energy, economy, and transport.
Reviewing and summarising scientific, technical, and market reports to support quantitative assessments.
Developing and applying energy system modelling tools using GAMS, Python, and/or R.
Supporting EU-funded research projects, contributing to climate policy and IPCC-related work.
Developing policy recommendations and policy briefs based on modelling results.
Managing your time across multiple projects with a focus on quality, organisation, and collaboration.
Project Areas You’ll Contribute To
Assessing national and international climate policies.
Analysing low-carbon transition strategies and feasibility at national and global levels.
Modelling decarbonisation pathways for key sectors (transport, electricity, industry, land use).
Exploring interactions between trade, industrial and climate policies in the EU and globally.
Supporting governments with implementation strategies for NDCs and emission reduction targets.
Key Competencies and Experience
MSc or higher in Engineering, Economics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
Experience in energy systems modelling or climate policy impact assessment.
Strong programming skills in GAMS and/or Python/R.
Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and Word.
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Collaborative mindset, with a proactive and organised approach.
Desirable Experience
Advanced knowledge or modelling experience in power systems, transport, industry, or climate modelling.
Familiarity with R, Git/GitHub, and LaTeX.
