We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Consultant to join our Economics Advisory team. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality economic advisory services, managing and contributing to complex projects, and developing strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. A background in economics is essential, and experience in the Water sector will be essential for this role.  

 

You will lead small to medium-sized projects and provide technical and strategic input on larger, complex assignments. In this role, you will also support the development of junior team members, contribute to business growth through proposal development and market insights, and help position Ricardo as a leader in applied economics in the water and infrastructure sectors. 

 

This role may be based out of one of our hubs across Australia (Melbourne, Adelaide, and Brisbane).  

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Lead the delivery of small to medium-sized economic advisory projects from inception to completion, ensuring outcomes are on time, on budget, and to a high standard. 
  • Support the technical lead on complex projects and proposals, contributing to project planning, analysis, and client engagement.  
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports and deliverables across all stages of a project lifecycle  
  • Ensure consistency in accuracy and timely output of work. 
  • Conduct economic and financial analysis, modelling, and strategy development. 
  • Deliver advisory services, including cost-benefit analysis, regulatory economic advice, and policy evaluation. 
  • Develop meaningful and innovative ideas, solutions, and strategies for our clients. 
  • Support Ricardo’s project teams to deliver exceptional results across multiple sectors and industries. 
  • Report any project issues to your respective Team Leader, Project Director and Directors of the business so that client relations can be addressed early.  
  • Continually strive to improve technical knowledge and encourage team technical discussions. 
  • Provide input into business development strategies and initiatives to further grow the business. 
  • Take an active interest in the other business units within Ricardo to further develop your specialist skills. 

 

Key competencies and experience  

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Economics or a related field. 
  • 5–8 years of relevant experience in economic advisory, preferably within a consulting or professional services environment.  
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines.  
  • Strong technical foundation in economic analysis, cost-benefit analysis, regulatory advice, and policy evaluation. 
  • Proven track record of producing high-quality, client-facing deliverables.  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, and ability to learn new systems and software quickly.
